Move all the NON OS and Apps off the boot drive.
Jan 09, 2020 Steps to Move your Photos Library to an External Drive. Attach your external hard drive to your Mac. If you have not yet done so, format the drive. We suggest using the same filesystem format that you are using on your internal hard drive. Open a Finder window and verify that your new storage device is correctly attached. You should see it. May 02, 2017 When the program launches, click “Continue” and your old Mac will log out of the current account. Select “to another Mac,” then click “Continue.” Now you’re ready to head back to your new Mac. Step Three: Start the Migration Process. Back on your new Mac.
Apr 24, 2020 Connect the computers to each other. Open Migration Assistant, which is in the Utilities folder of your Applications folder. Click Continue. When asked how you want to transfer your information, select the option to transfer from a Mac, Time Machine backup, or startup disk. Click Continue. I would recommend against moving applications to an external hard drive. The reason is speed. An external drive, especially a standard USB one, is much slower to access than your internal drive. So launching an app on an external drive, and using it as it accesses other parts of itself, will be slow and in some cases may not work as expected.
Keep all your applications with the system drive.
Mac OS doesn't normally need more than 150GB by itself, a few people have twice that (X-Plane can go anywhere and use 60GB)
I also would go for Windows on its own drive instead.
Move your home account to another drive or just all the data/doc and media libraries.
I've played with a dedicated 3rd party apps drive (10K or 15K SCSI) and it doesn't help. Sometimes you can install a few third party with your home folder if you really insist and drag and drop, most installers will still need to add to the boot drive's Library.
Can I move my programs, software from C drive to the second hard drive?
'Hi, do you know how to move an installed program or software from the C drive to another partition or a new hard drive?
Windows always like to install downloaded software, programs and even some applications in the C drive by default. However, as time goes by, the C drive space will be eaten and occupied by more and more software and programs.
So I want to know whether I can move those installed programs or apps from my C drive to a new hard drive on Windows computer? And how? By the way, I’m using Windows 10.'
